Far End House, Norfolk
Project type
Concept Design
Date
2025
Location
Norfolk
Inspired by the Norfolk coastline, this concept embraces a more structured and contemporary layout, using strong lines and bold materials to create a garden with clarity and purpose. Staggered sandstone pavers form the main route through the space, softened by corten steel edging and sculptural feature boulders that spill into the planting, adding texture and drama. The overall composition is carefully balanced, offering a clear framework while retaining a naturalistic feel through planting and material choices.
A large, sun-drenched deck replaces the original stone circle, creating a generous seating area that feels enclosed and intimate. Surrounded by ornamental grasses and feature shrubs, this zone provides a private retreat that is both functional and atmospheric. Three feature multi-stem trees are positioned to be visible from within the house, turning vibrant shades in autumn and acting as year-round focal points, linking the garden visually to the interior spaces.
The planting scheme introduces warm tones and seasonal interest, with dynamic combinations of grasses, perennials, and structural shrubs. Highlights include Kniphofia, Achillea, Cornus ‘Midwinter Fire’ and Calamagrostis, creating a garden that evolves beautifully through the year. Designed to be immersive and low-maintenance, this concept offers a bold, modern interpretation of a coastal garden that remains inviting and expressive in every season.
